CNIPT Week 41: Northwest European Processing Quotes Edge Down to €200–275/t as French Retail Slips Slightly Year on Year

CNIPT’s week 41 bulletin shows Northwest European processing quotes at €200–275/t and French retail potato prices slightly lower year on year.

The CNIPT’s week-41 market bulletin shows processing potato quotes broadly stable across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, while French supermarket potato prices in August ran flat to slightly below August 2025.

France’s interprofessional potato body CNIPT has published its week-41 edition of “Les cotations et indices du marché pomme de terre”, the regular two-page compilation of French and foreign potato quotations and INSEE price indices.

The clearest signal this week comes from the processing markets of Northwest Europe (all quotes in euros per tonne). In the Netherlands (PotatoNL), week 40 versus week 39 shows: frites 35mm+ at €200–275 (was €210–275); Innovator at €240–275 (was €250–275); Fontane at €200–230 (was €210–240); export at €220–270 (was €220–280). In Belgium (Fiwap/Viaverda), week 41 versus week 40: Fontane/Challenger unchanged at €200; Innovator at €225–275 (was €250); Bintje and early varieties not quoted. In Germany (Reka, fresh market), quotes held flat between weeks 39 and 40: Rhineland at €300, Rhineland-Palatinate at €330–350, Lower Saxony at €270.

The pattern is consistent with what Northwest European trade reporting has described for days: processing values are holding a firm floor near €200 per tonne, with upper ends easing only modestly as the harvest progresses. Fresh-market quotes in Germany remain markedly higher, reflecting the tight supply of quality table potatoes this season.

On the consumer side, CNIPT’s retail table for French supermarkets (GMS, 2–3 kg formats, excluding organic) compares August 2026 with August 2025 in euros per kilogram. All-purpose consumption potatoes averaged €1.66/kg in August 2026 versus €1.76 a year earlier; firm white-fleshed oven potatoes came to €1.50 versus €1.42; firm red-fleshed frying potatoes €1.47 versus €1.49. In short: retail potato prices in France are running flat to slightly below last year’s levels — despite the production-cost inflation the sector has reported all season.

The retail figures come from CNIPT’s GMS price panel covering mainstream 2–3 kg formats — the “cœur de gamme” of the French potato aisle — and excluding organic lines. The panel’s footprint widened between the two reference points, from 231 stores in August 2025 to 287 in August 2026, lending the year-on-year comparison a broader base. Alongside retail, the bulletin compiles broker quotations from the sworn-broker network SNCPT for French export and domestic shipping-stage positions in weeks 39–40, Rungis wholesale prices labelled for week 41 and the organic shipping market for week 40.

The bulletin also tracks INSEE’s monthly indices (IPAMPA input prices, IPC consumer prices, IPPAP producer prices) and broker quotes from the sworn-broker network SNCPT for French export and domestic shipping-stage positions in weeks 39–40, covering presentations from washed Agata in 5 kg sacks to big bags and 25 kg nets, plus the Rungis wholesale market for week 41 and the organic shipping market for week 40. Direction arrows across the broker table are mixed — up, down and flat by position — consistent with a market still finding its post-harvest balance.

The week-41 PDF was posted to CNIPT’s cotations page in the days before 13 October. For traders, the operative numbers this week: Belgian Fontane/Challenger steady at €200, Dutch processing ranges broadly €200–275, German fresh €270–350 — and a French consumer paying about the same per kilo as last summer, or a few cents less.
